High-quality measurement characteristics: SSB Phase noise -90 dBc (1 Hz) Intermodulation-free dynamic range > 70 dB (TOI > 5 dBm) Displayed average noise level typ. -120 dBm (300 Hz) Level uncertainty < 1.5 dB
Since the displayed average noise level is typically -120 dBm (300 Hz), even weak signals can be reliably detected. This is important for the measurement of spurious and harmonics. Within the intermodulation-free dynamic range of the R&S FS300 no inherent distortions occur, which could interfere with the measurement. This is especially useful when a high dynamic range is required, i.e. high and low levels are to be measured simultaneously. The points in the measurement trace are displayed with a level uncertainty of <1.5 dB. This value is unrivalled in this price class and an essential prerequisite for high measurement accuracy.
Resolution Bandwidth from 200 Hz to 1 MHz
With 16 different digitally implemented resolution bandwidths starting at 200 Hz, the R&S FS300 can be optimally adapted to different measurement tasks. Large bandwidths for overall measurements ensure short sweep times while small bandwidths provide high frequency resolution and low noise level. The R&S FS300 fulfills every requirement in between.
Frequency counter with 1 Hz resolution
With the aid of the built-in frequency counter, the signal frequency can be measured with 1 Hz resolution in the entire frequency range. An additional frequency counter is therefore not required which saves space on the lab bench.
Maximum input level +33 dBm
The maximum input level of the R&S FS300 permits signals to be measured far beyond the common limits. Mobile phones with a maximum output power of 2W can be directly connected to the spectrum analyzer without external attenuators being required.
Ergonomic user interface
Operation is menu-guided so that even untrained users will quickly obtain correct measurement results. Clear structures simplify navigation within the menus. Users familiar with spectrum analyzers from Rohde & Schwarz will quickly find the menu items they know from other Rohde & Schwarz instruments. The bright TFT colour display with 320*240 pixel resolution allows traces to be read even at odd angles or when the incidence of light is unfavourable.
Remote control via USB
Another new feature of the R&S FS300 is the USB remote-control interface. The user can select external PC control even during instrument operation by means of hot plug and play simply by establishing a USB connection. This is the first time that lab test equipment can be remote-controlled via USB without any restrictions. With the aid of the USB cable, the R&S FS300 can be operated even at positions which are difficult to access, e.g. in a shielded chamber. A Windows(2000/XP)-compatible driver for different development environments is provided togehter with the R&S FS300. A PC software package is also available for remote control of the R&S FS300 and for result display and recording.
Compact housing with flexible handle
The R&S FS300 is notable for its compact and robust design. Whether on the operator desk or in the rack, it takes up a minimum of space. Two series instruments can even be accommodated next to each other in a 19-inch rack. The new, adjustable handle fulfills several functions. It serves for carrying the R&S FS300. It can be moved and locked in almost any desired position. With the aid of the handle, the instrument can be set up in a tilted position so that an optimum viewing angle can be obtained for the display. If the handle is in the way, it can easily be put away so that several R&S FS300 can be stacked, for instance.
High picture refresh rate
The high refresh rate of up to 10 pictures per second ensures smooth display of measurement results. Changes of parameters during module adjustment are thus rapidly displayed which saves time in development and production.
Various measurement functions
The R&S FS300 offers a number of measurement and marker functions to support signal analysis. Two normal or one normal and one delta marker are provided for determining the signal level. The normal marker may be positioned as a reference marker on the fundamental, for instance, while the delta marker is positioned on a harmonic. The difference between the two levels represents the harmonic suppression. The normal or delta markers can also be used as noise markers for measuring the noise power density. The n dB bandwidth of a signal, e.g. the 3 dB or 6 dB bandwidth, can also be easily measured with the R&S FS300.
Internal memory for settings and traces
Up to five traces and ten settings can be stored in the internal memory of the R&S FS300. Frequently used settings can thus be easily called up and the same parameter need not be set over and over again. This also prevents setting errors on the R&S FS300. The traces stored in the instrument can be called up later and output to a printer, for instance.
Professional test equipment for laboratory, service and production
The FS300 is a highly accurate spectrum analyzer with a frequency range of 9 kHz to 3 GHz.
Owing to its modern, digital frequency processing technique, it offers high measurement quality at a favorable price. The FS315 is additionally equipped with a built-in tracking generator from 9 kHz to 3 GHz for scalar network analysis; the tracking generator is also suitable for generating fixed-frequency signals. Plus, the FS315 includes various detectors for evaluating measurement results and allows electric field strength measurements taking into account the antenna factors.

High-quality measurement characteristics
The RF characteristics of the FS300/FS315 are setting new standards in the lower price class. Since the displayed average noise level is typically –115 dBm (300 Hz), even weak signals can be reliably detected. Owing to the wide dynamic range, this is also possible when strong carrier signals are present.
The points in the traces are displayed with an accuracy unrivalled in this price class. This is an essential prerequisite for any measurement task. Resolution bandwidths from 200 Hz to 1 MHz
With 16 digitally implemented resolution bandwidths from 200 Hz to 1 MHz, the FS300 can be optimally adapted to the measurement task at hand. The FS315 additionally covers the range up to 20 MHz. Wide resolution bandwidths for overall measurements ensure short sweep times, whereas narrow bandwidths are ideal for high frequency resolution and a low noise level. The FS300 and FS315 fulfill every requirement in between.
Scalar network analysis
The FS315 with built-in tracking generator is the perfect solution for costefficient testing of the transmission behavior of filters, cables, amplifiers and so forth. Equipped with an additional VSWR bridge, reflection measurements can also be performed. Entering any frequency offset between 0 Hz and 3 GHz allows measurements on frequency-converting DUTs.
With simple applications, the tracking generator can be used as a signal generator with a permanently set frequency.
Locating EMC weak spots
The HZ-15 near-field probes are diagnostic tools used for locating EMC weak spots on printed boards, integrated circuits, cables, shieldings and other trouble spots. The Near-Field Probe Set HZ-15 is adequate for emission measurements from 30 MHz to 3 GHz. The Preamplifier HZ-16 up to 3 GHz, with approximately 20 dB gain and a noise figure of 4.5 dB, increases sensitivity for measurements. In combination with the FS300/FS315, the preamplifier and near-field probe set are a cost-effective means of analyzing and locating sources of interference during development.
Ready for the future – the new instrument family
The FS300 and the FS315 are part of a new family of analyzers and generators for development, service and production applications. The platform on which this family is based – with its compact design, powerful processor system, fast internal bus and ergonomic user interface – provides optimum conditions for professional, favorably priced instruments.
Compact housing with adjustable handle
The FS300 and the FS315 are notable for their compact and robust design. They require only a minimum of space on your desktop or in the rack. Even two instruments of this family can easily be accommodated next to each other in a 19-inch rack. The handle, which can be turned and shifted, can be used to carry the instrument during transport and as a fold-out support to ensure an ideal angle. The handle can be conveniently tilted to the side if it interferes with smooth operation.
Remote control via USB interface
The FS300 and the FS315 can easily be operated from a PC via the USB remote-control interface. Simply connect the PC via hot plug & play, start the supplied software and that’s it. The supplied drivers for Windows 2000/XP make system software integration mere child’s play.
